  • Overview

    The Manager of Staff Education and Training educates, orients, trains, and evaluates clinical and non-clinical staff in order to maintain and assure quality care services to patients. The individual works in partnership with clinical leadership to ensure clinical and regulatory compliance benchmarks are met by all clinical and non-clinical staff. The individual provides guidance on clinical documentation competence for the homecare staff and facilitates a smooth coordination of care, integration of services, clinical decision making and reporting for admitted patients. They will be responsible for assessing the needs of all disciplines and providing educational support for specific home care requirements such as, OASIS, regulatory compliance and patient/disease specific care planning.


    • Responsible for ongoing development of orientation and education of clinical and non-clinical staff.
    • Implements orientation program for newly hired staff and assists with field visits as needed to ensure general core competencies of clinical, field and office staff.
    • Provide one-on-one training to ensure ongoing competency and training needs are identified and addressed through field visits, and chart reviews.
    • Evaluates personnel performance through observation, record review and home visits where applicable and instructs and assists in promoting more effective performance.
    • Documents observations and competencies from those visits and communicates results to Managers and appropriate parties. Recommends training and corrective action as indicated.
    • Provides consistent feedback to Clinical, Rehab and other mangers regarding orientee’s progress and/or identified areas of focus to ensure collaboration and efficient completion of orientation process.
    • Provides orientation and ongoing training of clinical staff through the development of recommendations to facilitate/enhance their clinical skills.
    • Instructs and advises employees in policies, procedures, standards and guidelines related to the provision of care.
    • Functions as a role model in select clinical skills, demonstrates competency in performing patient visits and clinical documentation according to agency standard work processes for SOC, ROC and Discharge OASIS visit.
    • Helps staff to set priorities and develop plans of care and services based on short and long term goals.
    • Assists staff in teaching the patient information and skills necessary for quality of care.
    • Make home visits when necessary to provide supervision/guidance in care plan development.
    • Participates in the development of clinical workflow processes.
    • Works with DPS and Quality Assurance Department in the development of policies and procedures.
    • Works with DPS and Quality Assurance Department with the education and implementation of initiatives related to Quality Assurance Performance Initiatives/Performance Improvement Plan (QAPI/PIP) implementation.
    • Participates in the agency’s QAPI/PIP and monitors problem areas associated with infection control, safety, patient care coordination, and equipment use
    • Promotes evidence based practice in the home care setting by utilizing accepted standards of practice to include guidelines or recommendations issued by the Joint Commission, CMS, DOH and other regulatory agencies.
    • Demonstrates sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding suspected violation of corporate compliance regulations.
    • Reports all suspected violations to Compliance officer or Compliance Hotline.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. 



    • Current New York State license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
    • Masters Degree in Public Health Nursing or Nursing Education preferred.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
    • Knowledge of OASIS/OASIS Certification preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
    • Knowledge of McKesson EMR Platform/McKesson Super User preferred
    • Must be able to effectively disseminate information to all levels of staff through verbal and written communication.
    • Two years experience in a Certified Home Health Care Agency.
    • Minimum 3-years recent professional nursing experience in clinical, administrative or teaching capacity preferred.
    • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and independently with a team.
    • Must have the ability to teach in a constructive manner, and the desire to work with the clinical team to assure high quality clinical standards.
    • Specialized expertise in training and development including curriculum design, multi-modal methods of education delivery, test construction, and competency evaluation preferred.
